Majdi Ashchi, DO, FACC, FSCAI, FABCM Receives FOMA Physician of the Year Award
Majdi Ashchi, DO, FACC, FSCAI, FABVM, of Jacksonville, Florida, received the 2007 Physician of the Year Award from the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association (FOMA) during its 104th Annual Convention held February 22-25, 2007, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. A crowd of more than 700 osteopathic physicians, healthcare professionals, and students attended the Convention.

The FOMA Physician of the Year Award has been presented to an osteopathic physician who, during the past year, has made significant and considerable contributions to the osteopathic profession, their patients and to the community on both a local and statewide level.

Dr. Ashchi has been an active member of the FOMA for more than 9 years. He earned his osteopathic degree from Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1989. He was the first osteopathic physician to be granted privileges to perform peripheral vascular interventions at Memorial Hospital Jacksonville. This physician's most impressive service to the osteopathic profession has been as Program Chairman for the Annual Cardiovascular & Medicine Retreat for the past 8 years. This program was developed by this leading cardiologist in Jacksonville, who wanted a forum for primary care physicians (DO's, MD's and allied health professionals) to learn the latest developments and treatment options for their patients who suffer from cardiovascular diseases and issues. Each year he has been able to increase attendance, increase faculty, bring in educational grants and top notch speakers. He has secured endorsements of the American Heart Association, Memorial Hospital Jacksonville and the American Academy of Family Physicians to ensure credits for all physicians and allied health professionals. Dr. Ashchi is currently in private practice at First Coast Cardiovascular Institute in Jacksonville, Florida.

The Florida Osteopathic Medical Association (FOMA) is the state association for osteopathic physicians in Florida. The FOMA has been serving osteopathic physicians since 1904. Our Executive Office is located in Tallahassee, Florida. The FOMA was organized for the purposes of advancing the science and art of osteopathic medicine; extending the benefits of scientific advancement to the treatment, prevention, and alleviation of human ailments; and promoting closer relationships between the osteopathic profession, FOMA members, and other groups dedicated to improved health care.
