We all know one of the best parts of a vacation is trying new food. It’s always fun to splurge, but it is possible to eat food that is both delicious and good for you. Use these tips to eat healthy while traveling, and remember that the better we eat, the better we feel.
Make Smart Restaurant Choices
Vacation often means taking a break from the kitchen and trying new places to eat. Work with your waiter to order the healthiest version of a meal. There are a few easy ways to do this:
Use a Nutrition App
Calorie Counter & Diet Tracker by MyFitnessPal.com has a database of over five million foods to look up nutrient content so you can make an informed decision. The app allows you to scan barcodes on over 4 million foods. In addition, you can track your food and major nutrient intake.
Stock Your Hotel Room
Stop by a grocery store on your way in and purchase some healthy snacks to avoid the mini bar in your hotel room. Keep water bottles, fruit, nuts and healthy granola bars on hand. Also, a quick tip for purchasing granola bars: look for bars with fewer ingredients and a decent protein and fiber content – at least 5 grams of protein and 3 grams of fiber per bar.
