September 25, 2007 marked the opening of the first free standing cardiac and peripheral vascular catheterization laboratory (cath lab) in Jacksonville. First Coast Cardiovascular Institute, PA (FCCI) is leading the community in the application of technological advances in cardiac and vascular care, while setting a standard of excellence in the field.

The new state of the art cardiac and peripheral vascular catheterization laboratory is for non-emergency outpatient visits under the care of FCCI Cardiovascular Specialists. The new laboratory is equipped with a state-of-the-art Phillips cardiac/vascular imaging system. There are seven private post procedure recovery rooms in the suite.

At FCCI, patients will be able to undergo procedures on an outpatient basis by a team of board certified, highly trained and qualified physicians. “Many patients find the free standing cath lab setting a more comfortable and convenient place of service when compared to a traditional hospital setting since the staff is dedicated exclusively to these services,” according to cath lab manager and veteran nurse Brian Wilsey, RRT. Patients undergoing these procedures in our cath lab usually go home the same day.

FCCI is committed to providing the best care available, performed by the most skilled providers, in the most advanced setting with the utmost attention to detail. The cath lab is designed with patient comfort in mind from computers in the recovery rooms to private sitting areas for family. Importantly, the cost of an outpatient procedure done in FCCI’s cath lab is often less than when performed in the hospital increasing patient accessibility to care.
