Khalil Afsh, MD
Director of Internal Medicine, Primary Care & Research Programs
Internal & Preventive Medicine
Dr. Khalil Afsh is one of the founders of Jacksonville Clinic. He graduated medical school from the American University of Beirut. At the State University of New York, Syracuse, he completed his residency in Internal Medicine then moved on to finish his clinical fellowship training in Hematology and Oncology at the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Afsh currently serves as the Director of Internal Medicine and Primary Care. He is also the Director of the Research department.
Dr. Afsh came to Florida in 1996 where he started his career and founded and operated one of the most unique and largest outpatient healthcare centers in North Florida. He was the leading physician and President/ CEO of Premier Medical Clinic, a multispecialty medical practice in Perry, Florida. During that time, he served as Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Florida State University where his medical center was a teaching site for medical students and residents. Dr. Afsh also served as the Chairman and CEO of a regional pharmaceutical company as well as a clinical research organization.
Dr. Afsh came to Jacksonville, FL to start and spearhead Jacksonville Clinic operations in December 2013. He recognized the need for a strong network of primary care physicians in Northeast Florida. “By 2020, there will be a shortage of 94,000 primary care physicians,” Dr. Afsh said, “Jacksonville Clinic provides integrated specialty care to improve the quality of care of patients.”
Dr. Afsh is a member of the American College of Physicians, American Society of Internal Medicine, American College of HealthCare Executives, American Medical Association and a Diplomate of the American Board of Clinical Lipidology. On the weekends, he enjoys playing tennis and spending time with his friends and family.
Lauren Dimitrov, MPH, RDN, LDN
Lauren Dimitrov is a Registered Dietitian at First Coast Cardiovascular Institute.
Lauren earned a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics from Florida State University as well as a Masters Degree in Public Health from Florida International University. She completed her Didactic Program in Dietetics at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.
Lauren has been working as a clinical dietitian for 8 years during which she has worked with a variety of patient populations. Prior to entering the clinical area, she held various public health positions at the local, state, and national levels in the areas of nutrition, tobacco control, and oral health. Her passion is overall wellness and helping others improve their lifestyles.
At FCCI, Lauren provides medical nutrition therapy, nutrition education and counseling to patients and families. Her focus is working with patients to improve and prevent dyslipidemia or related metabolic diseases, such as diabetes, which can often lead to heart disease.
Lauren enjoys spending time with her family, being active, cooking and traveling.
