Dr. Thielemann was always strongly driven to academic achievement; and during his high school years in Mississippi, he was recognized as a National Merit Scholar. Subsequently, he graduated magna cum laude from Mississippi College with an undergraduate degree in biology, with minors in history and English. In his later years of graduate training at UMMC, Dr. Thielemann took advanced electives in neurosurgery and neuroanatomy under distinguished faculty members Andrew Parent, M.D., and Duane Haines, Ph.D., with the future goal of entering the field of endovascular surgical neuroradiology and establishing a career treating patients suffering from vascular diseases of the nervous system.

Here he studied under such leaders in the field of neurological medicine as Jon Brillman, M.D., and James Valeriano, M.D., as he pursued his career in stroke medicine and vascular neurology. During his last year of residency, Dr. Thielemann had the honor of being chosen as chief resident.

After selecting his new career focus, Dr. Thielemann continued his training at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, where he completed a one-year fellowship in Sleep Medicine, working under nationally recognized sleep specialist physicians Teri Barkoukis, M.D.; Michael Summers, M.D.; and Sabin Bista M.B.B.S.

Dr. Thielemann is an avid reader, enjoys classical music, and continues to study rich and varied subjects including mythology, art, ancient history, military history, archeology, paleontology, theology, philosophy, and the history of the state of Florida. He, his wife, and their new baby son enjoy their family time, which now includes the exploration of the greater Jacksonville and St. Augustine areas.
