Majdi Ashchi, DODistinguished among his peers for his extreme hard work and dedication to his practice, it is no wonder he has won the utmost trust & confidence of so many patients and colleague physicians alike.

A real family man, and everybody's friend, Dr. Ashchi is the senior founding physician at First Coast Cardiovascular Institute. Having served the Jacksonville community since July 1997. He has proven himself to be a very aggressive cardiologist with the greatest compassion to his patients and an unparalleled devotion to their well being. Whether it is Saturday morning or Tuesday after midnight he has always been readily available to attend to his patient's cardiovascular emergencies.

A graduate of The College of Osteopathic Medicine at Nova-Southeastern University of The Health Sciences, and The University of South Florida, he was recruited to The prestigious Cleveland Clinic Foundation for his Internal Medicine residency. He then undertook his Cardiology Fellowship at Case Western Reserve University program at MetroHealth/Mount Sinai Medical Centers in Cleveland, Ohio. He then advanced to The University of Connecticut, Hartford Hospital where he underwent a year of dedicated training in Interventional Cardiology. He has attended numerous courses in the Endovascular treatment of peripheral vascular disease, and has been a real pioneer in the field in the First Coast region, having accumulated the largest experience in the evolving field of carotid artery stenting.

Alumni Spotlight: Dr. Majdi Ashchi

Dr. Ashchi's commitment to the newest and latest has kept his lecturing schedule very busy with numerous cardiovascular lectures locally and elsewhere in the State. He has also been committed to continuing Medical education, and has served on the continuing medical education committee at memorial hospital. He was the first to start a tradition of a yearly local conference to update his colleagues about new advances in the field of cardiovascular medicine. He is also very well published in the field.

In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Ashchi also serves as Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Bradenton, FL. Each semester outstanding medical students from the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and final semester nurse practitioner students from the University of Florida College of Nursing are selected to train with Dr. Ashchi. Those students selected for this training accompany Dr. Ashchi during his office visits, rounds and procedures. These students put in long days training in many areas of cardiovascular medicine during a rigorous 4-8 week rotation.

Dr. Ashchi has a vision of putting the patient first, and always striving for excellence. They both share a strong commitment to quality and doing whatever it takes to improve the patient symptoms and prognosis. Dr. Ashchi has served on many quality assurance and credentials committees at Memorial Hospital. On the rare occasions that he is not busy with patient care, he is usually enjoying his kids, wife and proud parents who also live in town.

Dr. Ashchi has been selected as the primary investigator in the CAPTURE, SAPPHIRE and EXACT trials for carotid artery stenting and many other vascular trials. This honor goes to the few physicians that meet strict criteria of performing these procedures. In fact, First Coast Cardiovascular Institute physicians in general have an excellent track record of success with carotid stenting of high risk patients.
